Prep Time

Preparation time for this recipe is approximately 20 minutes.

Cook Time

Cooking time for this recipe is approximately 10 minutes.

Ingredients

- 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal - 1 bag of mini marshmallows - 3 tablespoons of butter - Green food coloring - Assorted candies and decorations (such as M&Ms, sprinkles, and candy canes)

Equipment

- Large mixing bowl - Wooden spoon - 9x13 inch baking dish - Wax paper - Christmas tree cookie cutter - Pastry bag with a small round tip (optional)

Method

1. Begin by melting the butter in a large saucepan over low heat. 2. Once the butter is melted, add the mini marshmallows to the saucepan and stir until they are completely melted. 3. Add a few drops of green food coloring to the mixture and stir until well combined. 4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until the cereal is completely coated in the marshmallow mixture. 5. Pour the mixture into a 9x13 inch baking dish that has been greased or lined with wax paper. Spread the mixture evenly in the dish and press down firmly. 6. Allow the mixture to cool for a few minutes before using a Christmas tree cookie cutter to cut out tree shapes. 7. Once you have cut out the trees, use your hands to shape them into more defined tree shapes. 8. You can now decorate your trees with your favorite candies and decorations. Use a pastry bag with a small round tip to add details like garland and ornaments. 9. Allow your trees to cool and set for at least an hour before serving.

Notes

Make sure to use fresh marshmallows for the best results. Old marshmallows can result in tough and chewy Rice Krispies treats.
