Description

Filipino Sweet Sticky Rice is a popular dessert that is often served during special occasions in the Philippines. It is made from glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk and sugar, which gives it a sweet and creamy flavor. This delicious dessert is perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Prep Time: 8 hours

Soak the glutinous rice in water for at least 8 hours or overnight.

Cook Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups glutinous rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 can coconut milk (400ml)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • banana leaves (optional)

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Banana leaves (optional)

Method

  1. Drain the soaked glutinous rice and rinse it with water.
  2. In a large pot, combine the glutinous rice, water, and coconut milk. Stir to combine.
  3. Place the pot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  4. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Let it cook for about 20 minutes.
  5. Add the brown sugar and salt to the pot and stir to combine.
  6. Continue cooking the rice for another 10 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is fully cooked.
  7. If you are using banana leaves, wash and wipe them clean. Cut them into rectangles and place them on a flat surface.
  8. Place a spoonful of the sticky rice in the center of each banana leaf rectangle.
  9. Wrap the banana leaf around the rice to form a small package. Secure it with a toothpick or string.
  10. Arrange the rice packages on a platter and serve.

Notes

  • Make sure to soak the glutinous rice for at least 8 hours to ensure even cooking.
  • Do not stir the rice too much while it is cooking to prevent it from becoming too sticky.
  • If you cannot find banana leaves, you can serve the sticky rice on a plate instead.
