Ingredient

  • 1 cup Basmati rice

  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida powder
  • 2 green chillies, slit
  • 1/4 cup roasted peanuts
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • Water

Equipment

  • A medium-sized pan with a tight-fitting lid
  • A wooden spoon or spatula
  • A knife
  • A cutting board

Method

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly and soak it in water for 20 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a medium-sized pan and add mustard seeds.
  3. Once the mustard seeds start to splutter, add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, asafoetida powder, and slit green chillies.
  4. Saute for a few seconds and add the roasted peanuts.
  5. Add the drained rice and stir well.
  6. Add 2 cups of water and salt to taste.
  7. Bring the water to a boil and reduce the heat to low.
  8. Cover the pan with a tight-fitting lid and cook for 15 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked.
  9. Once the rice is cooked, turn off the heat and add lemon juice.
  10. Mix well and let it sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • You can use any type of rice, but Basmati rice works best for this recipe.
  • You can adjust the amount of lemon juice and green chillies according to your taste.
  • You can add some fresh coriander leaves for garnish.
