Description
Filipino fried rice, also known as "sinangag," is a popular breakfast dish in the Philippines. It is a simple yet flavorful dish made with leftover rice, garlic, and soy sauce. It is usually served with fried eggs and a side of meat such as tocino, longganisa, or corned beef.Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 cups cooked rice, preferably leftover and chilled
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Green onions, sliced (optional)
Equipment:
- Large skillet or wok
- Wooden spoon or spatula
- Bowl
Method:
- Heat the oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.
- Add the cooked rice and soy sauce to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Sauté the rice for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the rice is heated through and slightly crispy.
- Add black pepper and sliced green onions (optional) and stir to combine.
- Remove from heat and transfer the fried rice to a bowl.
- Serve hot with fried eggs and your choice of meat.
Notes:
- Leftover rice works best for this recipe because it is drier and less sticky. If you don't have leftover rice, cook fresh rice and chill it in the refrigerator for a few hours before making the fried rice.
- You can add other ingredients to the fried rice such as diced carrots, peas, or scrambled eggs.
- For a healthier version, use brown rice instead of white rice.
